Within LRC, the Global Regulatory Compliance Team operates as part of the second line of defence (2LOD), acting as a trusted, impact-driven partner that provides guidance, oversight, and proactive solutions across the Americas.

What you’ll do

As Regulatory Compliance Manager, Canada, you will be the first compliance hire in Canada, owning the creation and growth of Airwallex’s regulatory footprint from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to shape a high-profile, strategic compliance program, forge relationships with the Bank of Canada and other regulators, advise on business and product strategy, and define how compliance operates locally in a rapidly growing fintech.

You will own compliance for Canada, embedding controls into products and processes, driving strategic regulatory engagement, and maturing a nascent framework for payments regulation in Canada. You’ll lead licensing, reporting obligations, regulatory examinations, and ad-hoc initiatives that unlock business opportunities and accelerate growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead regulatory engagement in Canada, serving as the key point of contact with regulators and establishing trusted, proactive relationships.

  • Own and manage licensing, registrations, and filings for Airwallex Canada, ensuring obligations are met accurately and on time.

  • Provide strategic guidance to the business on regulatory change, new products, and operational initiatives, turning complex rules into practical, actionable advice.

  • Partner cross-functionally to embed compliance controls into customer-facing products and internal operations.

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve policies, processes, and frameworks to drive regulatory maturity and operational excellence.

  • Lead compliance reviews and monitoring programs to identify risks and recommend improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in law, accounting, or with a professional designation.

  • 6+ years of compliance experience in a banking, regulated financial institution, fintech, consulting, or legal practice.

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and American regulatory frameworks, licensing, and regulatory engagement.

  • Proficient in working with data to inform compliance strategy.

  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholders at all levels, including regulators and executives.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience dealing with the Bank of Canada and other financial services regulators.

  • Knowledge of the Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA) and its implications.

  • Exposure to RegTech or technology-driven compliance solutions.
