About the team

Airwallex’s global Regulatory Legal & Compliance Team works cross-functionally and across multiple jurisdictions to develop and execute regulatory strategies that facilitate expansion into new markets and sustainable growth of Airwallex’s operations worldwide. The team is responsible for applying for new regulatory licenses as we expand in product suites and geographic regions, and for putting in place robust regulatory compliance measures and programs.

What you’ll do

As Senior Counsel in Product Legal, you will be a valuable member of the global Product Legal team and will help our rapidly growing business navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape. Although you will be based in the US, you will have multi-regional responsibility by supporting our product and partnership strategy and advising on complex technology transactions in EMEA and APAC.  You will build strong business relationships with business teams and understand the business environment. When you don’t know the answer, you’ll know how to obtain the answer and explain it to business partners. This dynamic role is ideal for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats and solving complex issues  for our internal and external partners, is detail oriented, willing to take on challenges and changes, obsessively curious and intellectually honest, thrives on taking actions and delivering impactful results, and aims to inspire and be inspired. Experience in fintech or payments is welcomed, as is a demonstrated passion for mastering something new. Relevant subject-matter expertise may include knowledge of payments, card networks, and banking. 

This hybrid role is based in San Francisco or New York City. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and support to the product team, local legal teams, support functions, Airwallex management, and the Legal, Risk, and Compliance Department.

  • Coordinate with local counsel across jurisdictions such as Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, The U.S., The UK., and The European Union to discern and devise optimal paths to market from a legal and regulatory perspective

  • Liaise with senior stakeholders of the Airwallex group, located around the world.

  • Manage external counsel and consultants on regulatory matters.

  • Support negotiations on complex and novel agreements with our strategic partners

  • Support government relations outreach to legislators and regulatory agencies

Who you are

We’re looking for people who meet the minimum requirements for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience as a lawyer at a top firm, in-house-or in government.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to deal with a range of internal and external stakeholders

  • Proactive, results-driven, and take ownership of your work.

  • Ability to multi-task and a team player with strong communication skills

  • Strong drafting skills

  • Ability to master new areas of the law quickly

  • High levels of professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic, including a readiness to lend a helping hand to teammates

Preferred qualifications:

  • In house legal experience gained ideally in the fintech industry or financial institutions

  • Subject-matter expertise in payments, card networks, or fintech

  • Experience working with stakeholders across the globe

$160K – $260K • Offers Equity • Offers Bonus

Airwallex promotes fair compensation practices in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local law.

These expected base pay ranges are based on information at the time this post was generated and represent the company’s good faith minimum and maximum ranges for this role at the time of posting.

The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills and other qualifications, geographic location as noted, internal equity, and other external market factors.

Certain roles may be eligible for other compensation including, but not limited to, annual bonuses, commissions, RSUs, or other forms of compensation in addition to the established salary range.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and work location. US-based employees are eligible to participate in medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability, basic life insurance, and well-being benefits. US-based employees also receive 20 paid days of vacation and 12 paid days of company holidays in a calendar year.
