About the team

The Operations team at Airwallex ensures the smooth and efficient functioning of our services and processes. We focus on optimizing workflows, improving operational efficiency, and delivering exceptional customer support. What you’ll do

As the Associate, Merchant Risk Operations, you will conduct holistic risk reviews of merchants through various workflows. This will include a balanced approach of assessing risk and the merchant experience and proper documentation on new trends or riskiness. You will be a subject matter expert on merchant risk who makes sound decisions and provides guidance to team members and stakeholders. 

This role is based in San Francisco, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess fraud and credit risk and determine the risk exposure calculation methodology on new and existing merchants across Airwallex’s product suite (payment acceptance, issuing and money movement business activities)

  • Streamline and up-level our merchant onboarding and risk monitoring programs

  • Clearly explain Airwallex’s risk policies to internal and external stakeholders

  • Work with merchants on chargeback or dispute solutions and leverage the knowledge to provide guidance towards the risk performance improvement plans

  • Use business credit reports, financial documents, and related investigative research tools to conduct risk assessment of Airwallex’s merchants

  • Provide suggestions on current merchant risk related products, policies, and processes in order to improve the operational effectiveness

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to understand merchant’s business activities, and communicate risk trends, patterns to different stakeholders according to risk assessment

  • Be responsible for daily case management

Who you are

We’re looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.

Minimum qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in fraud / credit risk / compliance function with experience in Fraud, Credit Risk, transaction processing or Chargeback Processing

  • Strong understanding of credit risk evaluation, including risk evaluation methodologies including but not limited to industry verticals, business models, financial status, and portfolio risk performance

  • Experience in payment acquiring product and payment industry, including cards and local payment methods

  • Exceptional data analytics skills and resourcefulness

  • Experience in problem-solving, including the ability to recognize non-obvious patterns and out-of-the-box thinking

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment

  • Excellent team player capable of learning and sharing knowledge across a global team
    Comfortable working with customers directly

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with SQL

  • Experience at a high-growth fintech

  • Experience in fast-paced startup environments

These expected base pay ranges are based on information at the time this post was generated and represent the company’s good faith minimum and maximum ranges for this role at the time of posting.

The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills and other qualifications, geographic location as noted, internal equity, and other external market factors.

Certain roles may be eligible for other compensation including, but not limited to, annual bonuses, commissions, RSUs, or other forms of compensation in addition to the established salary range.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and work location. US-based employees are eligible to participate in medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability, basic life insurance, and well-being benefits. US-based employees also receive 20 paid days of vacation and 12 paid days of company holidays in a calendar year.
