In this role, you will:

In 2025, the Payments Team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in the Amsterdam R&D center. 

In this role, you will play a key part in diverse initiatives across our international payments platform. We highly value your expertise in constructing, designing, and engineering payment systems, whether it’s a gateway, acquiring, issuing, or equivalent. If you’re not already familiar, you’ll gain comprehensive knowledge of Visa and Mastercard payment platforms. Collaboration with the payments product team and occasional interaction with partners’ engineering teams are encouraged. As a vital member of our core acquiring payment team, you’ll contribute to building the next-generation Payment Acceptance infrastructure with a constant focus on Merchant needs.

In our Payments Team, your responsibilities extend beyond delivering product features to achieving business outcomes. Your tasks will involve developing various REST services and integration components within a backend microservices architecture, connecting with our React frontend. 

The scope of your role includes designing and implementing new capabilities aligned with our product roadmap, conducting architectural reviews for current and upcoming solutions, addressing tech debt, and enhancing operational effectiveness.

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Over 5 years of expertise in contemporary engineering methodologies, emphasizing continuous integration and quality engineering. 

  • Proficient in guiding a concept from inception to implementation, with a dedication to delivering meticulously tested and high-quality solutions. 

  • Possesses robust computer science fundamentals, with a recent focus on Java or Kotlin, Spring / Spring Boot technologies.

  • Specialized in designing and constructing REST APIs, adept in handling high-volume distributed systems, Kafka event streams, and distributed data storage systems such as Cassandra, Hazelcast, Oracle Coherence, or similar technologies. 

  • Demonstrated proficiency in cloud platforms like GCP or AWS (EC2, RDS, ELB, CloudFront), along with exposure to containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Skilled in Javascript / Typescript and well-versed in operational tooling, including but not limited to New Relic, StatsD, Elk, Datadog, and Prometheus. 

Nice-to-have: Extensive experience in the development of payment gateways, acquiring platforms, or issuing platforms. A strong advantage includes expertise in integrating Local Payment Methods (i.e., iDeal, Klarna, Trustly) or major Cards (i.e., Visa, Mastercard).
