About the team
The Licensing Team works closely with the CEO’s office as well as commercial, product and regulatory teams to pave the way for market entry in support of go-to-market in new jurisdictions. The team also supports applications for additional permissions in existing jurisdictions, major license-renewal projects, and related projects. The Licensing Team plays a crucial role in expanding Airwallex’s jurisdictional reach. Our portfolio of over 60 licenses is a key differentiator and driver for growth–continuing to expand the jurisdictions in which we are licensed is a core priority for the company.
What you’ll do
The Associate Director, Strategy & Operations – Licensing will be responsible for obtaining licenses and regulatory permissions to help Airwallex expand its permitted activities. This role will manage a global team of 3 Licensing Managers and will play a vital role in our expansion in LATAM, EMEA and APAC.
This hybrid role is based in San Francisco or New York.
Responsibilities:

Scope licensing and regulatory permission requirements and develop related licensing strategies

Coordinate with the CEO’s office and Regulatory Legal on strategy

Manage strategy execution, including business plan development, and completion of all required government filings

Obtain licenses for new entities established in new jurisdictions

Obtain change-of-control permission in support of acquisitions of new entities

Obtain licenses in current jurisdictions to expand our permitted scope of activities

Manage major license renewals

Manage key internal stakeholders such as the Product, Legal, InfoSec Financial Partnerships, and regional and local-country commercial teams

Deal with regulators to respond to queries and feedback on application materials

Manage a team of 3 Licensing Managers

Lead the development of playbooks, SOPs, checklists, templates and other tooling to enhance the capabilities and speed of the Licensing Team
Who you are
We’re looking for people who meet the minimum requirements for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.
Minimum qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
-
A minimum of 8 years experience in strategy or management consulting, including working overseas or on overseas projects
-
A minimum of 2 years experience leading a cross-border team
-
Strong organization and project management skills
-
Strong writing and communications skills including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate technical matters

Experience working in a fast-paced environment
-
Experience working independently to deliver results
Preferred qualifications:
-
Experience with financial technology and/or payment businesses

Experience with licensing applications, particularly payments or other financial licenses
