The Role:
Airwallex is redefining financial services in the digital economy with the world’s most powerful global financial infrastructure and operating system for modern businesses. With 1500 employees across 23 locations worldwide, and plans to add 300 new colleagues by the end of 2024, we are looking for a seasoned employee communications leader to join the team as Director of Global Employee Communications.

Reporting to the Global Head of Corporate Affairs, you will play an instrumental role in helping to engage, inform and activate Airwallex’s growing employee community in service of building our business and serving our customers. At a time of rapid global expansion, we seek an employee communications leader with the experience to help us build, refine and scale our internal communications processes, content and channels with a global to regional hub and spoke approach in deep partnership with our People Team and GMs.

Your role requires extensive communication engagement and relationship-building with the global leadership team. This role will have significant C-suite exposure and requires executive presence, people skills, strategic sensibility and business savvy.  The ideal candidate has at least 15 years experience, including experience with late-stage technology companies with globally distributed workforces and management teams.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and implement a refreshed global employee communications and engagement strategy

  • Leverage strategic communications to help employees understand what it means to be part of the Airwallex team, providing clarity on our values and operating principles as teams and individuals. This includes our customer-centric operations as well as the employee proposition for total rewards, career development and culture

  • Craft communications strategies and tactics that align employees consistently with where we are going, how we will get there and what it means for them

  • Optimize our internal communications channels, and determine a channel plan that accounts for our hybrid and geographically distributed workforce

  • Diversify our internal spokesperson bench and leverage a variety of voices consistently

  • Leverage our matrixed org structure to cascade and penetrate messaging across, up and down the organization

  • Cross collaborate with global, regional and functional leadership teams

  • Measure impact and recalibrate strategy to ensure we are meeting business needs

  • Contribute to and work with the Corporate Affairs team to build meaningful internal amplification of external communications to build Airwallex employee pride in our brand and business

  • Proactively initiate campaigns including media placements and conference keynote opportunities to position Airwallex as a thought leader in tech and business. Partner deeply with marketing and sales colleagues for media and conference opportunities.

  • Provide counsel as a trusted advisor to the global leadership team, help assess reputational risk matters and handle sensitive and crisis communication pertaining to internal issues as needed

What You’ll Bring:

  • Solid domain knowledge in employee communications

  • Direct experience working with management teams to scale employee communications and engagement alongside rapid organizational growth

  • The ability to successfully create engaging and informative creative content to foster employee engagement and strengthen company culture

  • Experience partnering with employer brand teams to convert internal engagement into external advocacy

  • Understanding of leading and emerging employee communications/engagement tools and platforms

  • Proven track record and ability to deliver tangible outcomes

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and strong executive presence

  • Strong management skills and proven ability to influence and collaborate across functions

  • Experience working across international markets with a culturally diverse team

  • Understanding of different market and cultural nuances between Australia, China, Rest of Asia, Europe and the U.S.

  • Proven consensus building and interpersonal skills

  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to problem solve, test and learn.

  • The resilience to try and try again

  • Ability to move in a fast-paced environment, highly-adaptable, able to reprioritize and change gears quickly
