About the team

The Legal, Risk & Compliance (LRC) team at Airwallex is a collaborative group of legal minds and risk management experts. We’re passionate about safeguarding Airwallex’s operations, fostering a culture of compliance and ethical conduct, and ensuring we navigate the global financial landscape with integrity. We provide expert guidance and support to all areas of the business, proactively identifying, mitigating, and managing legal and financial risks.

What you’ll do

You will strategically partner with sales leadership, providing proactive and effective legal support to enable the region to achieve their ambitious business goals.

This role is based in San Francisco, New York City or Austin.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Americas Sales team and lead, manage, and close deals with our most strategic users

  • Play a pivotal role in building and scaling Airwallex’s commercial legal infrastructure to maximize operational efficiencies and keep pace with Airwallex’s fast growth. This work includes creating and improving contract templates, negotiation playbooks, more efficient processes, and internal trainings

  • Work closely with cross-functional partners on user deals, including sales, product legal, tax, operations, compliance, and risk

  • Provide practical legal guidance on how to navigate rules and regulations for new deals and customers in the Americas

  • Provide legal strategies to facilitate the rollout of our products to customers locally, regionally, and globally

  • Support expansion and launches to customers in new markets

  • Work with the compliance and risk teams globally to align on Airwallex’s policies

Who you are

We’re looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 7+ years of post-qualification experience in commercial, financial service and corporate law preferably with a fast-growing tech startup or law firm

  • LLB, LLM or Juris Doctor

  • A business pragmatist that focuses on “win-win” solutions and positive sum negotiations

  • A creative problem solver that loves to challenge assumptions, rethink norms, and chase down solutions to thorny problems

  • A keen interest in financial services regulation and the fintech industry 

  • In-depth knowledge of the legal and business environment in the Americas region

  • Outstanding negotiation, communication, and leadership skills

  • The ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Preferred qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese

$150K – $235K • Offers Equity • Offers Bonus

Airwallex promotes fair compensation practices in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local law.

These expected base pay ranges are based on information at the time this post was generated and represent the company’s good faith minimum and maximum ranges for this role at the time of posting.

The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills and other qualifications, geographic location as noted, internal equity, and other external market factors.

Certain roles may be eligible for other compensation including, but not limited to, annual bonuses, commissions, RSUs, or other forms of compensation in addition to the established salary range.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and work location. US-based employees are eligible to participate in medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability, basic life insurance, and well-being benefits. US-based employees also receive 20 paid days of vacation and 12 paid days of company holidays in a calendar year.
