About the team

The Strategy & Operations team at Airwallex plays a pivotal role in driving the company’s overall growth and efficiency. We are a collaborative group of analysts, strategists, and operational experts who are passionate about translating vision into action. We leverage data insights, sharp problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of the business to optimize processes, identify growth opportunities, and ensure Airwallex operates efficiently and effectively at scale.

What you’ll do

We are currently seeking an adaptable, successful, and experienced country manager as we increase our market share overseas. In this role, you will be responsible for the success of our expansion into Japan and overseeing all aspects of the business. In order to succeed in this position, you need to be highly driven, have experience working with local regulators, and experience adapting our go-to-market strategy for further expansion into Japan.

This role is based in Japan.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage every aspect of our expanding operation in-country (eg. country strategy, go-to-market, operational set-up, regulatory & licensing, team management, product offering, partnerships, etc)

  • Recruit the very best talent in this new market

  • Work closely with product/engineering and legal and licensing teams on product and regulatory/licensing topics

  • Conduct extensive research regarding the market and work with regional strategy team to develop a go-to-market strategy

  • Collaborate with HQ leadership on implementation of country strategies and report back on a regular basis

  • Synthesize monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on progress and development

  • Drive local market growth and business development by networking effectively with clients, local partnerships and developing strong professional relationships

  • Work to ensure deadlines are met and budgets are maintained

  • Mentor direct and indirect reports, especially in regard to our values and vision

  • Contribute to the overall global success of our company

Who you are

We’re looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 12+ or more experience in management in an international business setting. Start up experience would be a plus

  • 10+ years of experience including experience with top-tier strategy/management consulting firms

  • Experience in a leadership position and/or ownership over P/L and strong stakeholder management skills in an international working environment

  • Fluent in the both Japanese and English

  • Exceptionally well organized and driven by success

  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure situations and highly adaptable in a fast-moving environment

  • Outstanding negotiating skills

  • Analytical thinker with superior problem-solving skills

  • Solid history of data-driven strategic development

  • Decisive and committed

  • A natural leader who inspires and motivates those around them

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, MBA or other relevant fields
