Pioneering Work

Why the Airwallex Solutions Team Sits in Product & Engineering

At Airwallex, solutions roles are expansive and dynamic. We drive key customer-facing engagements across the full customer lifecycle: from pre-sale Solution Architecture and technical validation, through complex Post-Sale Solutions Engineering and Delivery, to ongoing Steady-State Technical Account Management and Optimization. We ask our team to spend time in each area to learn about our customers and our products holistically. We also build.

The simplest way I can describe our mandate:

  1. Solve for the customer in front of us.
  2. Build for the customers we haven’t met.

That sounds obvious, but it fundamentally changes how you design a team. And it’s why after spending the last four years leading software development teams I was thrilled to work with Airwallex leadership to build a Solutions organization that can actually realize it. I think it’s where product development is going next.

Why we sit inside the Product & Engineering Team

At most companies, Solutions lives in Sales or GTM. At Airwallex, we sit intentionally inside Product, Engineering, and Design.

Here’s why that matters.

For the customers we haven’t met yet, the work must compound. Every integration pattern, product gap, every documentation friction point is signal. Our job isn’t just to escalate that signal. It’s to turn it into something repeatable: better docs, better tooling, better APIs, better onboarding paths, better product functionality, and eventually more self-serve adoption at scale.

That’s the reason I’m excited about how we’ve organized the Solutions team here. Sitting inside Product, Engineering, and Design shortens our feedback loop dramatically.

When a recurring customer friction point shows up in discovery or go-live, the expectation isn’t to file a ticket and move on. It’s to help turn it into something better for the next customer, faster.

The kind of people we’re hiring

We need people who are technical enough to earn trust with builders, practical enough to help customers get live, commercially aware enough to understand why a solution matters, and product-minded enough to ask: “What can we build and ship, today, for the next customer?”

The strongest Solutions people I’ve met are hard to label. Engineers, architects, implementation consultants, technical account managers, sales engineers, product specialists, founders. The title matters less than the pattern: they understand customer problems deeply, reason through systems, communicate clearly, and turn ambiguity into forward progress.

Why now at Airwallex

Airwallex supports 160+ local payment methods across a global platform, and the customers building on top of it (from high-growth startups to large enterprises) are increasingly sophisticated. The Solutions team is growing at the same pace, and we’re at the stage where the people who join now will shape how this function operates for years.

Our CEO Jack Zhang has been clear about where we’re headed: building the future of global finance with AI at the center. Solutions are a core part of how that gets realized in the hands of real customers.

We’re hiring across San Francisco, New York, London, Amsterdam, Singapore, Shanghai, and Sydney — Solutions Architects, Solutions Engineers, Delivery Managers, and Technical Account Managers.

If this resonates with you or someone you know, I’d love to connect.
